Description
The Codex Science & Risk Analysis Training is a 3-day program designed to build foundational understanding of Codex risk analysis without delving deeply into its three core components—risk assessment, risk management, and risk communication, which are covered in separate modules.
Tailored for food safety regulators, Codex Contact Points, technical experts, and institutional leaders, this bilingual (English/French), flexible-format training (in-person or virtual) introduces participants to the principles, terminology, and strategic relevance of risk analysis in Codex decision-making. It emphasizes how scientific advice from FAO/WHO expert bodies informs global standards, and how countries can contribute to evidence generation and data pathways.
Participants explore the structure and function of Codex scientific advice, the role of national systems in supporting it, and the strategic use of risk analysis to influence Codex texts and negotiations. Through case studies and simulations, they gain practical insights into applying risk analysis concepts in national and international contexts.
The training supports institutional transformation and trade equity by equipping participants to engage meaningfully in Codex processes. It complements broader capacity-building efforts and aligns with SPS frameworks and public health goals. A Certificate of Completion is awarded to participants, recognizing their readiness to contribute to Codex work and scientific dialogue.
